In the western world most of these events take place in a party atmosphere, but it wasn’t always that way and in some places still isn’t. It is a part of the process of normalising aspects of human life experience that should never have been seen as anything other than normal and healthy in the first place. These days it is often an event that the wider community can enjoy as well. Pride month is an excuse, if needed, to be open and, yes, proud of who we are. I think this is something for another post but what I will say for now is that I would be happy to wave a few of those flags and in my experience (especially at the Kit Kat Club scene) there are definitely links between the kink community and the LBGTQ+ community. I imagine there is some debate about whether these aspects of sexuality should be associated with the LGBTQ+ spectrum. In the Marie Claire article linked above it also mentions that there are flags representing particular fetishes (Rubber, Leather, Bondage etc) which are sometimes used in Pride Month. I am certainly not just waiting until I meet the right person to settle down with I enjoy the lifestyle I have and I have no intention of conforming to how some other people think I should behave in these matters. And we would both say that having a variety of sexual experiences is an important aspect of our lives. We both have sex with other people separately and together. I have been in a relationship with Lou Lou for two years and I think we have a very strong and understanding relationship. Under the main heading of Pansexual, I could also identify as Polyamorous. The second reason I like the term pansexual is subjective but for me it also indicates an enjoyment of all kinds of sex without shame and without conforming to anyone else’s ideas of how sexual liaisons should be. Particularly in matters of romance and close friendship it really makes no difference to me what type of genitalia a person has or how they express their identity. The first is to make it clear that I can be attracted to anybody sexually or romantically, no matter how they define their gender or sexuality. I use the term pansexual for two different reasons.

#Kitkat gay pride month skin
I actually felt much more comfortable in my own skin after I had experienced sex with women and with people who were non binary. My first sexual and romantic experiences were all with men, but I never doubted for a second that I could be attracted to other genders or that indeed I wanted to experience that. Yes it was somewhat embarrassing or annoying at times to have a mum who has always been there and done that before me! But on the other hand being raised in a family where sex and sexuality were never taboo subjects, and where there was always an acceptance of all genders and forms of sexual/gender identity made it much easier for me to find my way in these matters. I had the advantage of having a mother who is herself pansexual. These are the people I would always choose to support and hang out with.įor many years I identified as bisexual but I now feel that pansexual says something more and is more accurate. But the first thing that became clear to me is that the whole of the LGBTQ+ community is “my” community. Since there are so many shades within the LGBTQ+ community, I wanted to find out where I really stand within that. I will place a link here to a short article I was reading about the different labels that exist and the flags which represent them. In some ways I think that there are too many labels under the LGBTQ+ banner.

And the right to be and express ourselves freely. My girlfriend will be with me and we hope to enjoy the day with some enjoyable debauchery.Īfter all the worries and restrictions of Coronavirus, I think this year more than ever before (for me at least) it is a time to celebrate and really take pride in our sexual and gender identity. It is pride month and I will be celebrating this year in Vienna (where we will be allowed to march with a few restrictions such as wearing face masks).
